A phrase I often hear is, “my child received a good foundation in God’s Word at Our Redeemer.” Foundations are important. A sturdy and square foundation lends itself to a sound building. We would find it strange for someone to invest time and resources into a foundation that just stayed a foundation. Foundations are meant to be built upon. Growing and maturing in faith is a lifelong endeavor. We are never done exploring the heights and depths of Jesus’ love. One error to guard against is that once a student graduates from ORLS, they are fully prepared to face the rest of their life with the training they have received. Foundations must be built upon. Our prayer is that students and families continue to build on their training and instruction in the Word of God. After all, once the house is built, it must be maintained. The lawn needs landscaping and upkeep; the walls need painting, the floors need cleaning. All these maintenance activities ensure the long life of the house. How do we build on our foundation of faith? Remain connected to the Word of God through Bible reading and study. Review all that God has promised us in Christ. Pray. Enjoy fellowship with other Christians. Receive the Lord’s Supper often. On this earth, we know that the storms will gather and the winds and hail will beat against the siding. The promises of our God provide a solid foundation as well as preserve our house all the days of our life. Yes, our children receive a wonderful foundation in God’s word, but foundations are just that… foundations. Keep building. -Principal Peck “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” -Matthew 7:24-25
